The Hardest, Yet Most Rewarding Journey of My Life
I still remember the day I made my first $100 as a solopreneur. It felt like magic.
I had no boss, no office politics, and no 9-to-5 schedule tying me down. But what I didn’t realize back then was that this journey would take me through sleepless nights, financial uncertainty, and countless failures before I could truly taste success.
Fast forward a few years, and I have now crossed $800,000 in self-employed income. No team, no investors — just me, my skills, and my ability to create, sell, and serve.
If you’re someone who wants to build a growing solopreneurship business and achieve true financial freedom, I want to share with you five game-changing lessons that helped me cross this milestone.
These are lessons no one teaches in school, yet they can change your life forever.
Lesson 1: Focus on High-Income Skills That Solve Painful Problems
If you want to make real money as a solopreneur, forget about random side hustles that pay pennies. Instead, focus on mastering high-income skills — skills that businesses and people are willing to pay thousands of dollars for.
For me, copywriting and digital marketing were the golden skills that allowed me to charge thousands of dollars per project. But for you, it could be web development, sales consulting, SEO, or any other skill that solves a big problem.
How Do You Identify a High-Income Skill?
- Does it help businesses make money or save time?
- Are companies already spending money on it?
- Can you charge $50 to $200 per hour for it?
If the answer is YES to these questions, you’ve got a winner!
If you’re not sure which skill to pick, look at Upwork, LinkedIn, and Fiverr to see what’s in demand. The key is to get really good at one thing before expanding.
Lesson 2: Pricing Higher Will Make You Richer, Faster
In the early days, I made a huge mistake — I charged too little. I thought charging low would bring more clients, but in reality, I was stuck working long hours for little money.
Everything changed when I increased my pricing.
- I went from charging $50 per project to $100-$500 per project.
- My income tripled in 6 months just by working with better clients.
- I started attracting clients who actually respected my time and expertise.
High-paying clients value your work more. You need fewer clients to hit big income goals. You stop feeling overworked and burnt out. Let’s say you want to make $10,000 per month. You can either:
- Get 100 clients paying $100 each (nightmare!).
- Get 5 clients paying $2,000 each (way better).
If you’re scared to charge more, start gradually increasing prices every 2-3 months. Clients don’t just pay for skills; they pay for confidence and results.
Lesson 3: Build Multiple Streams of Income Early
Making money as a solopreneur is great. But depending on just one income source is dangerous.
When I was freelancing full-time, I thought I was financially secure — until one big client ghosted me overnight. I lost $1500 in expected income that month, and it hit me hard. That’s when I started diversifying my income:
Here’s How I Created Multiple Streams of Income
- Client Work (70% income) – Writing & Marketing Services.
- Digital Products (25% income) – Selling eBooks & courses.
- Content (5% income) – Monetizing content with ads & sponsorships.
Now, even if one income source drops, I still make money from other channels.
Start with one solid income stream, and once you’re stable, add a second income source that doesn’t require daily effort (like an online course or eBook).
Lesson 4: Marketing Is More Important Than Your Skills
Most solopreneurs fail because they believe “good work speaks for itself.” That’s not true.
The best marketer wins — not the most skilled person. If you don’t actively market yourself, you’ll struggle to get clients, even if you’re the best at what you do.
My Marketing Strategy That Generated $800K+ in Self-Employed Income
- LinkedIn & Facebook: Posting valuable content daily.
- Cold Emailing: Sending 30+ targeted emails weekly.
- Personal Branding: Building trust by sharing my journey.
- Word-of-Mouth: Getting referrals from happy clients.
Stop worrying about being “salesy.” The more people know you, trust you, and see your work, the more money you’ll make.
Lesson 5: The Mindset Shift That Made Me a Top 1% Earner
No tactic or strategy will work if you don’t fix your mindset.
When I was earning $5K per year, I thought $10K was impossible. When I hit $10K, I thought $50K was impossible. But every time I hit a new level, I realized one thing:
The only limit is what you believe is possible.
3 Mindset Shifts That Changed My Life
- Stop thinking like a freelancer. Think like a business owner.
- Invest in yourself. I spent over $20K on courses & mentors, and it paid off.
- Be patient but persistent. Success takes time, but quitting guarantees failure.
Surround yourself with successful solopreneurs. The people around you shape your beliefs. Follow people who are already where you want to be.
If I Can Do It, So Can You
I didn’t have rich parents, fancy degrees, or special connections.
All I had was the hunger to succeed and the discipline to keep going even when things got tough.
If you take these five lessons seriously, you can build a six or even seven-figure self-employed income as a solopreneur.
Your future is in your hands.
